2016 Archives

November – The Nanuet Chamber has completed the paperwork to “Adopt-A-Spot” located at the entrance to Nanuet, “on the corner of South Middletown Road and the south end of Old Middletown Road in Nanuet, NY” (at the tip of the renovated ChoCho San restaurant).  We are extremely appreciative and grateful for being able to work with Mr. Landscape who is donating his time, labor and materials to renovate the area.

November 19 – The Nanuet Chamber Board is always hard at work figuring out ways to give back and beautify our little Hamlet. This morning several members of the board were on Main Street to set up 6 new hand-made garbage collection receptacles on Main Street. The beautiful wood containers were made by the very first Chamber member and Founding member, Nicholas Miller of Old World Carpentry and donated by the Chamber of Commerce!

November 15 – The Chamber held a networking and Town Hall meeting at Raymour & Flanigan from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Clarkstown Town Supervisor, George Hoehmann made a brief presentation on the progress his administration has made within the town. He then answered numerous questions from the attendees. Most of the Town Council members were also in attendance. We thank our sponsors Raymour & Flanigan for hosting and providing refreshments and PizzaRev for supplying a large number of various pizzas at discounted prices.

October 29 – Several chamber board members manned a table at a Halloween fundraiser at Harley Davidson in Nanuet on behalf of Heaven Can Wait Rescue, a shelter for homeless pets. The event had prizes awarded for several categories of costumes for both dogs and their owners. The day was a success as money was raised and at least 9 pets were adopted that day.

October 22 – Despite the rain, the Chamber held its 4th annual Halloween Spooktacular under a (last minute) tent. Although some of the extras we had planned (bouncing tent, and blow up maze) had to be canceled due to the wind, we entertained over 150 children, parents, friends, etc. who picked up their free pumpkins. Under the tent, they took part in pumpkin painting, face painting, Halloween games and received goodie bags with coupons and items donated by local businesses. Cupcakes, donuts, brownies and ice cream were donated by Stop & Shop, Carousel Cakes, Nanuet Creamery, the Nanuet Chamber and others.

October 18 – Responding to a number of member requests, the board changed our October board meeting in the hopes of drawing greater participation, usually held at 7:00 PM (at various locations and always open to the public) to a morning meeting. The October board meeting was held from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and members and the public were invited for coffee and light breakfast at Estrella’s Cafe, Main Street, Nanuet. We opened the meeting to feedback from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and heard a number of positive and constructive suggestions from about 10 members who were able to join us.

September 21 – The Chamber held a networking event at Mercedes-Benz of Nanuet. It provided a great opportunity to meet new colleagues, meet the Chamber board and hear about upcoming events.

June 5 – Our 3rd Annual Street Fair was held on Main Street in Nanuet. Despite the cloudy and sometimes rainy weather (the one thing the Chamber could not control), there was a very high turnout of vendors and local area residents who were determined not to let the weather hamper their shopping and fun times. The 500 bags were handed out in a shorter period of time than last year.

June 1 – The Nanuet Chamber coordinated a “bag stuffing” party at Pinot’s Palette (a Chamber member) where sponsors for our Street Fair T-Shirts and bags worked, networked and enjoyed wine and snacks while they added their literature, coupons, giveaways, etc. to the 500 bags the Nanuet Chamber would give away for free to attendees at the upcoming Street Fair.

May 9 – The Chamber held their annual meeting and networking event at the Aqua Terra Grill (Chamber member) where we held elections for both open board positions and re-election of several board members who were volunteering for renewal of their three-year terms. In conjunction with this event, we partnered with ATAX, (a founding Nanuet chamber member) who arranged for representatives from the Small Business Association, Internal Revenue Service and New York State Department of Taxation to provide short presentations, advice and answer questions regarding small businesses issues.

May 1 – Run for Retta – The Nanuet Chamber helped coordinate and sponsor the Run for Retta, a series of 1-mile walk/runs around Nanuet to raise money for the Breast Cancer Center at Nyack Hospital in honor of Loretta Cappiello. The event was also sponsored by The Shops at Nanuet who offered space for registration, refreshments and starting areas for the race.

April 19th – Our 3rd annual Health & Fitness Fair was held at the Pascack Community Center in Nanuet where over 40 providers held demonstrations and offered screenings and provided giveaways. The Nanuet Chamber gave out small First Aid kits to all who attended.

April 2nd – The Chamber board participated in the keep Rockland Beautiful cleanup in several locations around Nanuet.

April 1st – our Art Show at the Shops at Nanuet in the 2nd-floor atrium between Macy’s and Regal Theaters. Very well attended with over 100 adults and children artists who were presented cash prizes by the Nanuet Chamber of Commerce. Wonderful music selections were performed by the Nanuet High School Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Band directed by Katherine Rife and Walter Miller.

March 18th – student artwork from Nanuet schools set up throughout Nanuet businesses for two weeks as a prelude to the Nanuet Chamber Art Show.

February 11. The Chamber hosted a Networking Breakfast with Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann at Bonefish Grill in Nanuet. Mr. Hoehmann who had only been sworn in 5 weeks ago, discussed his approach to local government and answered a number of questions.

January 12 we held our Post Holiday Networking and Grab Bag event at The Kitchen Table Bar & Grill in Nanuet. The Chamber provided two free admissions to our members as a benefit.
